CEU Course Description

Behavior analysis is an evidence-based discipline that is widely applied in educational settings to support meaningful student outcomes. Within schools, behavior analysts contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of interventions that support access to education and address behaviors that interfere with learning. In the educational field, behavior analysts can demonstrate change through the development of socially significant behaviors as well as access to a service delivery model that is evidence-based and impactful. Access to services and education early in one’s life can directly impact an individual’s academic performance, cognitive abilities, and behavioral outcomes. Additionally, higher education populations are becoming more diverse within the classroom setting. These settings are now viewed as being multiracial, multicultural, and multigenerational. This diversity can impact the culture of the classroom as diverse learning histories among the students shape educational learning experiences. This course examines the application of behavior analysis within educational systems through alignment with federal requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and current professional standards outlined in the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts (2022). Emphasis is placed on ethical service delivery, functional assessment, behavior intervention planning, data-based decision making, and culturally responsive practices. In this course, participants will explore how behavior analysts collaborate with educators, families, and interdisciplinary teams to support equitable access to education and improve student outcomes across diverse educational environments.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Explain key IDEA requirements (FAPE, IEP, LRE, procedural safeguards) as they relate to behavioral services in schools
  2. Apply the BACB Ethics Code (2022) to school-based practice, including consent, collaboration, and professional boundaries
  3. Describe and apply Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) in educational settings
  4. Use data-based decision-making to evaluate intervention effectiveness and student progress
  5. Implement culturally responsive and equitable ABA practices within diverse classrooms
  6. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support student success
